Kuchipudi Fundamentals: 6 Week Course at Broome St Ganesh Temple
Kuchipudi is a Classical Dance form that originated from the dance-drama style traditions of spiritual traveling acting groups in Andhra Pradesh, India. Whether you are a practiced disciple of this art form or someone hearing about it for the first time, this 6 week course is an excellent opportunity to revisit the fundamentals of Kuchipudi. We will be systematically going over the theory and practice of Nritta (pure dance), Nritya (expressive dance), and Natya (dramatic storytelling) of Kuchipudi, reacquainting ourselves with its roots and laying groundwork for more complex explorations in the future.
The class will be led by Amulya Pilla, a dedicated disciple of Smt. Padma Sonti and Smt. Bala Tripura Sundari. Amulya has been practicing Kuchipudi since 2003, has played lead roles in several dance-drama productions, and is an ardent believer that passing sacred art forms to future generations requires deep respect to its origins and intentional evolutions to its details.
